How to actually learn a new language

So, you decided you want to learn another language? Congrats! You’ve just taken the first step on a wonderful journey of broadening your view of the world and self-discovery. But, at the same time, as anyone who’s done it can tell you, learning a language is hard work. There’s no magic solution to suddenly speak fluent Mandrin tomorrow (and, despite what the internet might tell you, there’s no magic trick to speaking it fluently by next month).
